Speed Skating in Maple Ridge

The Ridge Meadows Racers were founded by George Donatelli in November 1979. On April 8, 1981, Ridge Meadows Racers was incorporated and became the Ridge Meadows Speed Skating Association (RMSSA) under the Societies Act.

The association is administered by the executive, elected each year at the Annual General Meeting, usually held in April.

The Club has produced short track and long track provincial team members over the years.

We practice three days a week at Planet Ice, in Maple Ridge. The skating season lasts from September to April, with optional ice sessions and camps over the summer.

Long Blade (Speed) Skating in Canada

The governing body is Speed Skate Canada (SSC), which was founded in 1887 in Montreal. It is a member of the International Skating Union (ISU), which is the governing body for speed skating and figure skating.

Each province is affiliated with SSC. Our provincial organization is the British Columbia Speed Skating Association (BCSSA).

"Fast is Fun"

No matter what your age, condition, or ability, you can enjoy speed skating for recreation, fitness or competition. These who do not skate may also enjoy participating in club activities in many other ways including open ice skating sessions help from time to time (Christmas, Halloween, etc), so it becomes a "family affair"..
