Welcome to the website of the Ridge Meadows Speed Skating Association (RMSSA), the Ridge Meadows Racers.
Ridge Meadows Racers brings the excitement of short track speed skating to the communities of Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows. Since 1979, the club has coached skaters of all ages—from beginner to advanced—to develop the skills and techniques in one of the fastest sports on ice. We are one of the largest clubs in the province, with over 50 skaters participating within a wide range of ages and abilities.
Short Track Speed Skating is a popular sport—always one of the most popular for spectators at Winter Olympics—and highly competitive in many countries. For our club, there are competitions in the local community, as well as opportunities to compete at Provincial, National, International and Olympic levels.
The Ridge Meadows Racers are coached by Donatelli-Green Coaching; Julian, Eden and George. George Donatelli has lived in the community all his life, and coached his daughter, Eden, on her path to the ’88 Olympics. Along with Julian Green, another Olympian, the family-based coaching team bring world calibre guidance and training to the club, with a true passion for young skaters. Donatelli-Green Coaching also coaches our sister clubs in Langley and Sardis.
Our club’s home ice is Planet Ice in Maple Ridge. Regulation size speed skating ovals—both 100m and 111m tracks—fit within a standard hockey rink. Small markers are used on the ice to mark the racing oval, and thick padded mats are placed around the corners to prevent injury when a skater falls.
We encourage you to discover the fun and excitement of speed skating. If you are interested in learning more about our sport or the benefits of the Ridge Meadows Racers club, please contact the association or stop by the arena during one of our practice sessions—we are happy to introduce you to the sport and welcome you to our club.
Ridge Meadows Speed Skating Association is a proud member of BC Speed Skating Association and Speed Skating Canada.
